WERK in BriefWomen Educators

WERK is an organisation that has among her membership different professionals with key expertise in education research, development research especially in areas of gender and empowerment. WERK was established in 1994 and has been operational since then with key emphasis being undertaking research that will inform different organization programmes.WERK research goes hand in hand with dissemination workshops involving stakeholders and advocacy campaigns as a way of influencing policy and sensitization respectively.WERK currently has over thirty (30) members.

A Kenyan society based on the principles of equity, justice and peace for all.

Our Mission:

To undertake research and development work in the field of education in order to contribute to the attainment of a Kenyan society characterized by equity, justice and peace for all Kenyans.


Organization’s objectives:

  • To conduct creative gender responsive social research
  • To link research to advocacy and implementation of programmes
  • Disseminate research findings to educationists and non-educationists alike
  • Build professionalism in social and educational research

  • Capacity building through trainings
  • Advocacy campaigns.

WERK Seminar Series

The purpose of the seminars is mainly to give a platform for discussing and disseminating education and gender biased research.The seminars are held every first Friday of the month. Selected scholars are invited to present their papers in the seminars on topics related to the selected theme.The expected output at the end of the seminars is a publication featuring the seminar papers and discussions and write ups.
